You Don’t Know Her Story: Robin’s Journey From Survival to Strength
What Makes You a Beautiful Disaster?
In 2022, I finally turned in my abusive husband and, by the grace of God, made it out alive.
I endured 34 years of verbal, physical, sexual, mental, and financial abuse, along with constant cheating and manipulation. I lived through things people think only happen in movies.
But I survived.
And now, I refuse to stay silent about it.
Why Do You Identify with the Beautiful Disaster Brand?
I identify completely with the Beautiful Disaster Brand because it tells our stories.
Stories of triumph and resilience. Stories of rising up out of the darkness, coming back from near death to tell our stories so other women know they are not alone.
Tell Us Your Beautiful Disaster Story
I grew up in a home with two narcissistic parents. Love was always conditional, and I spent most of my childhood being used as a pawn in their constant battles. I was always searching for approval, acceptance, and love.
Then, in high school, I thought I had met my prince charming.
He listened to me. He acted caring and concerned. I opened up to him about my fears, hurts, and insecurities—but what I didn’t realize was that he was gathering ammunition.
Once I moved in with him, the mask came off.
The emotional torture started first. Twisting words. Manipulation. Isolation. Then came the physical, sexual, and financial abuse. I was forced to quit jobs and eventually leave college because surviving him became a full-time battle.
When I got pregnant, I thought maybe things would change.
They didn’t.
Instead, my children became leverage.
The abuse became more violent and more terrifying over the years. He cheated constantly, even with neighbors and relatives, then bragged about it. If I ever mentioned leaving, he threatened my children.
He isolated me so completely that I believed I had nowhere to turn.
As the kids got older and spent more time away from home, the abuse escalated. Once they moved out completely, it became full-blown warfare.
I was beaten, raped, and tortured in ways people believe only happen in movies.
There was no peace. No rest. Only fear and prayer.
Then one day in June of 2022, something felt different.
The darkness in the house was heavier than it had ever been before. He woke up already attacking me before he even left for work. Deep down, I knew I was going to die if I stayed.
After he left for work, I prayed.
And I heard God say:
“GET OUT NOW.”
So after 34 years, I finally drew the line.
Either he was going to jail, or I was going to die.
Thankfully, he went to jail.
He is still there today and is expected to remain there until at least 2037, though I still have to write the Parole Board every single year to protect myself and my family.
I exposed him for who he truly was.
And I survived.
Now, I openly share my story because I believe God brought me through all of it for a reason—not to hide, but to help others who are still trapped in the darkness.
I no longer hide who I am.
I no longer back down.
I have boundaries now.
I handle my business.
And for the first time in my life, I am finally free.
What Happened for You to Turn It Around?
Everything changed the day I realized I was truly going to die if I stayed.
That moment of clarity—and hearing God tell me to leave—saved my life.
