Hi Christie,

I love your brand Beautiful Disaster. It resonates with my life. I was a disaster in my past and it has made me into a beautiful person. I was addicted to drugs for 7+ years in my late teens and twenties. I did 1 1/2 years in prison for that. When I got out I made a point to NEVER do drugs again. So I decided to get tattoos instead. I don’t look like your typical ex-con (well maybe now I do lol). I’ve been off drugs for 5 years. Never even think about touching that evil shit ever again!!

It ruined part of my life but it also saved my life. I’m a beautiful disaster. Thank you for having such an awesome clothing line!!! BD ROCKS!!

I asked Joey to open up and share more about her story – I know that in these stories others find experience, strength & hope. If Beautiful Disaster can in any way help women lift themselves up then our mission will be fulfilled. Here’s more from Joey….

Well, I’m about to be 30, May 23. And this happened in Bedford, TX, my hometown. I started doing meth in 2003 with my boyfriend. Although, I did finish highschool, I was always high going to school. I was on Meth for 4 years, living in hotel rooms and living in cars. Selling everything we could to get high, even my own body. In, 2007 I got arrested and charged with a 2nd degree felony for possession of a controlled substance 2 – 400 grams. After I bonded out, I went to court at least 3 different times. And every time I went to court I couldn’t pee clean.

Finally, my lawyer and my judge had enough. I got 10 years deferred adjudication probation. Well, since I was still on meth, I never went to report. I took off to Florida with my 2 boxers (Oscar and Athena, the 2 best dogs in the world!) and my boyfriend. We drove all the way to Tampa, FL. I was officially “on the run.” We lived in hotels in Florida at the expense of one of my male “admirers.” My boyfriend would fly back to Texas to get dope for us and fly back. One day, I was on my way to pick up my boyfriend from the airport and I had a little fender bender on the highway.

Of course, there just had to be a Florida state trooper near us.

Now, in the process of moving to Florida, I got a really good fake ID made. So, I thought I was good. The cop came over and I handed him my license. He went to his car and when he came back he asked me if I had another form of identification. Of course I said no. LOL. Well, long story short, my car got searched and they found my actual ID. So, at this point they had an excuse to run my name through all the 50 states. And that’s when they found out that I was wanted in Texas. I got a 3rd degree felony in Florida for having a fake ID and apparently I “resisted arrest” (which I don’t remember). I spent 28 days in Hillsborough County jail in Tampa, FL. I ate so much food, and gained so much weight in those 28 days. I’m 5′ 6 and when I was on dope, I weighed 108lbs. After 28 days, Texas came to get me. I rode in a van, shackled at my wrists and ankles, all the way from Florida to Texas. 3 days on a van. When I got back to Texas, the judge sentenced me to 5 years in TDC (Texas Dept of Corrections) prison. I did a year and a half on a 5 year sentence. When I was released I was sent to a halfway house. I got a job at a Pharmacy software company and I’ve been clean ever since.

It’s been 5 years since then and I’ve never thought about doing that evil drug EVER again. When I got out, I started getting tattoos. Now I have a full sleeve and about 8 more tattoos.

That’s why I love your clothing line. I used to be a disaster. Now, I’m a beautiful disaster. If I would’ve never got caught and taken to jail, I know for sure I would’ve been dead by now. Thank you so much for making such a great clothing line!!!
