From a young age, my dream was to become a mother. It felt like a natural calling, something I envisioned with clarity and warmth. However, life had different plans for me—a path marked by challenges and unexpected turns.

My journey into motherhood began with the harsh reality of fertility struggles. After years of hoping and trying, I experienced the heartbreak of three miscarriages. Each loss was a devastating blow, shaking the very foundation of my dreams. Yet, amidst the pain, a resilient spark within me refused to dim. I knew deep down that motherhood was still meant for me; I just needed to find a different path.

It was during this emotional turmoil that I discovered the world of foster care. Initially daunting and intimidating, foster care soon revealed itself as a profound opportunity to fulfill my maternal aspirations in a way I hadn't imagined. Over the years, I welcomed 14 children into my home through fostering, each bringing their own story, their own wounds, and their own need for love and stability.

Among these children was a teenager who battled bone cancer and major sexual abuse. Her academic struggles mirrored her physical ones, with a GPA plummeting to 1.7 as she fought against both illness and circumstance. Through dedicated support, nurturing, and unwavering belief in her potential, we witnessed a remarkable transformation. Her GPA rose to a commendable 3.7, a testament to the power of love and structure in a young person's life. Today, she is not just a survivor, but a thriving young adult enrolled in college, embracing life with the same courage she showed during her darkest days.
Foster care isn't just about providing temporary shelter—it's about offering guidance, stability, and unconditional love to children who desperately need it. It's about becoming a beacon of hope in their turbulent lives, shaping futures with every hug, every meal shared, and every bedtime story read.

Through foster care, I found my purpose as a mother. It taught me that the definition of family extends far beyond biology. It taught me that you don't need to give birth to make a lifelong impact on a child's life. Whether they are babies or teenagers, each child leaves an indelible mark on your heart, weaving their unique story into the fabric of your own.
To families struggling with fertility, I want you to know that there are alternative paths to parenthood. The road may be winding, filled with heartache and uncertainty, but there is light to be found. You can be a mother in countless ways, and each journey is uniquely beautiful.

My story is a testament to the transformative power of love and resilience. It's a reminder that motherhood is not defined by the method of conception or the age of the child. It's defined by the boundless capacity of the heart to nurture, heal, and love unconditionally.

As I look at the child, my son, I eventually adopted from foster care, I am filled with gratitude—for the struggles that shaped me, for the children who enriched my life, and for the privilege of being called "Mom" in the most unexpected yet profound ways.

If you're considering foster care or adoption, know that it's a journey of immense rewards. It's a journey where you have the power to change lives, including your own. Embrace the uncertainty, trust in the process, and open your heart to the possibility of creating a forever family—one filled with love, hope, and infinite possibilities.
