Finding Myself Again: Amy’s Story of Sisterhood and Survival

What makes you a Beautiful Disaster?
I’ve survived loss—of a parent, a sibling, and of love in an abusive marriage. I never thought I could leave, but once I realized there was no love left, I told my family I was done—and to my surprise, they helped me. It’s hard to know if people really understand what you’re going through until they’ve experienced it themselves.
Why do you identify with the Beautiful Disaster brand?
My sister introduced me to Beautiful Disaster, and it helped me find myself through the disaster I called my life.
My Beautiful Disaster Story
After my divorce, I felt depressed, sad, angry, and lost.
I left my husband because he was mentally and psychologically controlling. He made it nearly impossible to leave. I felt cornered—especially financially.
But after I filed for a restraining order against him, my dad stepped in to help me. My sister and I were both going through divorces at the same time. We always used to joke that we were just “too nice,” but we finally found our voices again.
Together, we bonded over our love for Beautiful Disaster.
This brand helped us feel like we weren’t alone. It reminded us that we were part of something bigger—a strong community of women who lift each other up. And I love that.
What happened for you to turn it around?
Once I was out of my situation, I finally had time and space to reconnect with myself. I may not be the same woman I was before my trauma, but I am stronger now—and this brand helps me stay grounded in that strength.
3 Things I’ve Done to Move Closer to Happiness
-
I’m in therapy.
-
I’ve started traveling and doing things I couldn’t do before.
-
Most importantly—I started loving myself.
What is your favorite Beautiful Disaster collection, past or present, and why?
I love them all, but my favorite is the skull design that says, “Hating me won’t make you pretty.” I’ve always loved skulls. And I went from hating myself and feeling unworthy… to loving who I am.
